(i wait. i wait. i wait)

it’s true.

i am waiting to hear whether it is confirmed that I will get funding for another sculpture. for the first time, i am having a tinge of insomnia. it’s kinda cool, because it is freakin weird for me. i normally can sleep, no worries. The fact that i can chose my work hours is Key. I close my eyes and then colorful thoughts, sounds, images, and words whirl behind my eyelids. i decided that i am going to ride this energy as far as it takes me because all i want to do is design, draw, write, and process. i am too busy in my head. more yoga. more aikido. must center my business.

2.21 am pst. hauschka.

my family and loved ones are all asleep in the east coast, unless they are nightowl-ing it up (or waking up at dawn). for the first time since here, i’ve paused for a moment.. reflecting, how i miss family and some friends. the most interesting thing is, that the people i’ve been spending time with here — have only known me since summer and less.. and how disorientating that can be sometimes. when you look at it at another angle – maybe it can be supra-liberating. new kid in class. on the block. in the city. it is but a beginning.

time unfolds.

drawing an owl. trains whistles in distance. time to dream.

today is a beautiful freakin day.

woke up at 7am and decided to dedicate the day to an unfinished project, many months old. it involves several pieces of chipboard that have been poorly lasercut into the same designs as the HiveMind sculpture. i shall x-acto knife them free and make something out of these pretty pieces. should i paint them? sew them together? glue them onto something? something will happen.

friday night, i shared green+black’s espresso dark chocolate with friends in oakland. i danced for hours for the first time in awhile. it was also the first time i have Rocked Out in SF. getting lost in sea of dancing strangers, with few exceptions, can be sorta liberating. on the cab ride home, i’ve realized how long the bay bridge really is, which had prompted me to send a text to friends, ‘the bay bridge extends into Infinity!’

my fingers are blackened from the soot that is burnt chipboard by the laser. the x-acto process is somewhat tedious, labor intensive, and at the same time deeply meditative.

i think many thoughts. listen to the birds sing. the sun on my face..

by the way, i like this story: shackleton’s whiskey

i can get behind this for the most part.

The Cult of Done Manifesto

1. There are three states of being. Not knowing, action and completion.
2. Accept that everything is a draft. It helps to get it done.
3. There is no editing stage.
4. Pretending you know what you’re doing is almost the same as knowing what you are doing, so just accept that you know what you’re doing even if you don’t and do it.
5. Banish procrastination. If you wait more than a week to get an idea done, abandon it.
6. The point of being done is not to finish but to get other things done.
7. Once you’re done you can throw it away.
8. Laugh at perfection. It’s boring and keeps you from being done.
9. People without dirty hands are wrong. Doing something makes you right.
10. Failure counts as done. So do mistakes.
11. Destruction is a variant of done.
12. If you have an idea and publish it on the internet, that counts as a ghost of done.
13. Done is the engine of more.

this past sunday

i went on an adventure with a friend who was born in greenwich village, nyc.
we hiked through mossy, lush forests.
gazed out at to the pacific ocean on a rocky beach, she is so pretty.
i saw a bunch of crows. two of them were quite rotund.

hit the refresh button in my nervous system in a restorative yoga class

it was so nice.

a hummingbird swooped down and eyed me for a heartbeat or two and then flew off. we eyed each other actually. this had happened yesterday in a garden in laurel heights.

yesterday night saw me in a bar with a friend from ny and his friend.
i spoke to them earnestly about imagining big chunky clouds, transforming into spaceships.
we had beer called 21st amendment. later, we then listened to monolake on vinyl.

the simplest moments are often harbingers of deep sea joy.

‘in the inner most recess of my heart the light of instinct was twinkling, and i was as free of doubt as i had heard the command, “Go!” ‘ — banana yoshimoto

last night was a magical night.

after helping a friend move house all day, i hopped on my bike and rode to a coffee shop in the Mission. therein, i met my friend, rob. i also bought a $10 banana that had allowed me access to a Magical Bus. The driver was Chicken John. The Magical Bus drove us all around, and the audience within watched a film mixed by K-rob. We also celebrated the birthday of a woman called Spy. We drove up to the Berkeley Hills and gazed down upon the twinkling lights of east bay and SF beyond. The waning full moon above, we climbed on a large sculpture of a DNA spiral. Everything was all manga-fied.

The most awesome part of the night was going to this Play center. Here, we were unleashed into two giant rooms that had massive air filled play rooms, where you can bounce, climb, slide, scramble, and flip. About 25 of us played like little kids for about an hour, laughing our asses off. Watching and participating in the events that have unfolded like a flower last night felt like a really good film.

If an interesting stranger invites you on to a Magical Bus, do yourself a favor and buy the $10 banana!

It was good. I wish you were there!

when i get bored talking about things going on in my life, which invariably happens often.. it is because i am so interested in what other people are doing.

People like Bent Skovmand, who had passed away on the 13th of February 2007 at age 61. Time Magazine had written in 1991, “while not exactly a household name,” [Skovmand] had “more to do with the welfare of the world’s 5 billion people than many heads of state.”

Skovmand was a warrior who crusaded against the patenting of genes, proclaiming that, “[patenting genes is] like copyrighting each and every word in ‘Hamlet’ and saying no one can use any word without paying the author.” His life’s goal was to safeguard as many plant species as possible, so that they could be used to begin again should an event of natural/or man-made catastrophes, such as climate change or nuclear war, occur. Skovmand was also director of the Nordic Seed Bank, which is in the process of organizing an international seed vault located in Svalbard. However, ultimately, his main mission was to eliminate world hunger.

The crazy thing about the existence of that seed vault is.. IF humankind had really managed to truly destroy ourselves and the planet’s ecosystems, which would result in possible mass starvation. The seed vault has safeguarded many seeds.. so we can start over again… that just blows my mind. those people are the real saints.

and a side note! i was in bakery somewhere in berkeley.. a note pinned on the bulletin board had caught my eye. it was a handwritten note from a prisoner, who made a plea for correspondence. a friend of his may have posted it up there. I can’t remember the exact details of his note.. but it moved me. If you feel like writing a letter to a fellow human, who is locked up in jail for unknown reasons.. here is his address.
